Deputies of Ridgway Marshal's Office

Marshal David J. Scott "Scotty"

I started my career with Denver Police Reserve Force in 1980.  In January of 1997, I went to work for the City of Sheridan, Colorado as a police officer and worked with them until I moved to a position with the Town of Mountain View, Colorado in 1996.  These departments are all located in the Denver Metropolitan Area.  My assignments ranged from routine patrols, to traffic enforcement to investigations.

I grew up mainly in lower downtown Denver at my father’s transmission shop and lived in Denver most all my life with the exception when I served in the United States Marine Corps as a Sergeant, from 1968 through 1971.  I had always planned on moving to the Western Slope and set a goal of 10 years after I became an officer, I missed that date but I did finally make it.  In 1998 I was lucky enough to be hired by the Town of Norwood, Colorado where I took on the position of Chief of Police and actually was fortunate enough to take on the challenge of restarting a dormant agency that went out of service around 1980. This position is basically a one-man department that hasn’t quite made the jump to a second full-time position yet.   In 2000 I applied for and was hired to replace the retiring Marshal, Sherman Williams who had served this community for approximately 14 years.

We moved into new quarters in 2002, located in the Town Hall and have made great steps in advancing the level of service with the purchase of new patrol units and a reporting program; both of which were not here prior to my tenure and in addition we aggressively have tried recruiting the best possible law enforcement officers available for a growing Community that is made up of both blue collar and white collar workers as well as retirees, these officers are part of the Community that they serve.  These steps are not easy for the smaller communities as it takes a particular type of individual to perform Law Enforcement in a community with a very limited budget and action that most newer officers are looking for; talk about community policing, it is alive and well in Small Town U.S.A.

Deputy Charles Beckner

Charles started with the Ridgway Marshal’s Office in 2004.   Prior to this position, Charles worked for Carbondale Police Department where he retired.  After that, Charles worked for the Town of Nucla, CO as their Marshal.

Deputy Gary Ellis

Gary started his career by serving the public in Omaha, NE with the Fire Department.  In 1969, Gary started with the Denver Police Department.  During Gary’s time with DPD he served many different positions and in all areas of the City.   Gary was promoted to Lieutenant in 1982 after that he served both in the Traffic Division and Radio/Dispatch Center.   Gary started with the Ridgway Marshal’s Office in 2001 after retiring from DPD after 31 years.   Gary has brought with him lots of knowledge and experience that has really helped the Community and the Department.

Deputy Allen Paquin

Allen was born and raised in the northeast.  He came to Colorado in 1997 and became a volunteer officer with the Colorado Mounted Rangers in 1999.  Allen was certified as a Peace Officer in May of 2000 and worked as a Reserve Officer for the Town of Green Mountain Falls, Colorado.  Allen then moved to Nebraska in August of 2000 to work for the City of Broken Bow as a Police Officer.

In September of 2001, Allen was hired by the Ridgway Marshal’s Office.   Allen has been continuing training in the field of forensic science (Attending the University of Hawaii for a year in 2003), classes by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and currently serves the Department as the Crime Scene Technician and being a small Department Allen also has normal duties of routine patrols and assignments.
